How Technology Can Improve Students Learning
Technology is playing an increasingly predominant role at all levels of education, from elementary school to higher education. It greatly facilitates the transfer of knowledge and provides students with a whole spectrum of digital materials, creating an immersive learning process via the Internet.
Now it's time to go out there for a few awesome examples of how technology can improve students' learning!
Virtual reality (VR) – authenticity is achieved by surrounding students with interactive virtual space. At present this technology has been widely implemented in the field of medical training. For example, medical schools with virtual reality no longer need to rely on cadavers to train students on human anatomy. Medical students using VR can now explore accurate and real human anatomy including the cardiovascular system, central nervous system, muscles, and bones in a completely immersive environment.
Augmented reality (AR) – additional gadgets, such as AR headsets, are being developed to provide even more interactivity for students. In higher education, Chemistry AR apps allow students to visualize and interact with the spatial structure of a molecule using a marker object held in the hand. Others have used HP Reveal, a free app, to create AR notecards for studying organic chemistry mechanisms or to create virtual demonstrations of how to use laboratory instrumentation.
Text-to-speech (TTS) - Speech Recognition & Synthesis technology meets the needs of converting text into speech, allowing learners' application or device to speak. Speech synthesis is widely used in some cutting-edge translator devices for audio reading, translation dialogue, and voice assistant. Smartyoudao, a pioneer in this field, developed its Youdao Dictionary Pen using TTS technology and is dedicated to assisting students, especially those with literacy difficulties like dyslexia and bilingual learners, in reading, translating and communicating in multi-language settings.
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) - is the electronic or mechanical conversion of images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text. As a leading brand in smart translate devices, Youdao developed its OCR and applied it to Youdao Dictionary Pen which supports different languages with a 99.6% accuracy rate in recognition of formulas, printed text, pinyin and handwriting as well as scanning of different fonts, complex backgrounds and printed materials, enabling learners to recognize and translate whatever they expect to know about upon scanning.
